It’s that time of year when we get to celebrate one of the most important people in our lives – our mothers. Mother's Day (on 8 May 2022) is not a public holiday but it is a day to celebrate motherhood and show appreciation for mothers, including (great-) grandmothers, stepmothers, foster mothers and other mother figures. Our mothers play an important role in our lives; they are always there for us through thick and thin, encouraging us and giving advice when we need it the most. And who doesn’t like going home to taste their mother’s cooking?
Where did it all begin you may ask?
The origins of Mother's Day can be traced back as far as the ancient Greeks and Romans. The Ancients Greeks performed an annual spring festival dedicated to honouring the maternal goddesses. In particular, they honoured Rhea, the wife of Cronus, who was the mother of many deities in Greek mythology. The Ancient Romans also celebrated a spring festival called Hilaria. This festival was dedicated to the Cybele, a Roman mother goddess. The celebration was marked by offerings presented to the temple of Cybele which lasted for three days and included parades, games and masquerades. The idea of an official celebration of Mother's Day was first suggested by Julia Ward Howe in 1872. Julia, who was an activist, writer and poet suggested that 2 June be annually celebrated as Mother's Day and that the day should be dedicated to peace. Her passionate appeal to women, the famous Mothers Day Proclamation, urged women to rise against the war. She also initiated a Mothers' Peace Day observance on the second Sunday in June in Boston, and the meeting was held for many years. Julia's idea spread widely but was later replaced by the Mother's Day holiday now celebrated in May.

Pale pink in colour with delicate bubbles rushing forward, this Brut Rose displays delicate aromas of freshly cut strawberries, raspberries and red fruit on the nose. The palate is filled with white peach, mushroom and biscuit flavours. A persistent mousse leads to finesse and flair in the finish.

What can you expect?
Attractive notes of fresh raspberries and pomegranate, with a subtle hint of rose petals. Crisp but delicate, with a refreshing balance between vibrant fruit, floral notes and natural acidity on the palate.

What can you expect?
This full-bodied wine has excellent mouthfeel, infused with floral notes, crisp citrus and luscious white peach. Some may be surprised by the absence of any time spent in wooden barrels given the polished mouthfeel.
Stellenbosch Vineyards Limited Release Grenache 2018
What can you expect?
On the nose, this wine explodes from the glass with candied red currants and the intensity of fruit. The palate is bright with crisp tannins and plenty of bright acids. The long, light finish shows a lovely streak of cranberry.
Remember, it doesn’t matter if you give her flowers, chocolates, jewellery, wine or treat her to a lovely breakfast. Just show her you care or simply, just tell your Mom that you love her.
