Savage Wines is a boutique producer of handcrafted wines located in the heart of the City of Cape Town. Unique parcels of vines across the Cape are farmed with great care to produce wines of elegance and finesse, the hallmark of Savage Wines. 

New Vintage Release: August 2022

A note from Duncan on this years release: 

 We are once again proud to release our new vintage which focuses on 2021 with the exception of the Savage Red which is from the 2020 vintage.

2021 was a classic South African vintage. We had a very moderate growing season with no heatwaves and intermittent rain to ensure the vines were kept happy. A fair bit of rain fell towards the end of the vintage, but fortunately for us most of the fruit was already in the cellar. The vintage had an almost European feel to it, and the resultant wines are crystalline and pure. The Salt River cellar operation has grown somewhat and we remain firmly entrenched in the heart of Cape Town. New development comes in the form of our investment in viticulture.

We continue to oversee all our vineyards focussing on the replanting of dead vines, extensive mulching, sustainable farming and attention to detail in general. The most exciting project is
coming in the form of an extreme 1ha Syrah planting in Stellenbosch, which is one of the steepest and lowest solar radiation sites in the Western Cape. While challenging, these new projects have the potential to produce some of SA’s most exciting wines, and we have a few in the pipeline.

We would like to welcome Laura Carswell to our small team. Laura joins us with a wealth of experience and will get to know many of you in the years to come.
