This Red Blend is: 61% Merlot, 19% Roobernet, 11% Malbec, 4.5% Petit Verdot, 4.5% Ruby Cabernet
Roobernet is a red grape developed in South Africa in the 1960s by Prof Chris Orffer by crossing Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante Bouschet. Similar to Pontac, Roobernet is a 'teinturer' variety – its flesh and juice are red instead of clear as in other red cultivars. This makes it a good blending partner due to its intense colour.
What can you expect?
A medium-bodied red wine with ripe blackberries, plums, liquorice and refined tannins with a long lingering finish.
