Stellenbosch Vineyards Limited Release Verdelho 2021

A Commitment to Excellence:

Our Verdelho embodies the ultimate philosophy of our winemaking team: crafting wines that are elegant, graceful, and inherently rewarding. Originating from Portugal, Verdelho lends its name to one of the four main types of Madeira wine and has historically been utilized in fortified wines. Inspired by its adaptability to warmer climates and its success in regions like the Douro and Swan Valley (Australia), we planted this variety in Stellenbosch with great anticipation.

From Vineyard to Glass:

Grown in a trellised vineyard planted in 2005 on a southern slope, our Verdelho grapes are hand-harvested, sorted, and destemmed to ensure only the finest fruit is selected for fermentation. Fermented in a combination of 60% first-fill French oak barrels and 20% second and third-fill barrels, the wine matures for 10 months before undergoing meticulous blending. From this process, only the top eight barrels are chosen to produce this exceptional wine, with just 3000 bottles crafted.

Winemaker's Notes:

Upon tasting, our Verdelho reveals enticing aromas of peach and apricot, complemented by flinty, floral, and nutty nuances. Its zesty character unfolds on the palate, showcasing notes of raw almond and dried fruit. A well-integrated acid line adds to its complexity, culminating in a refreshing, lingering finish that leaves a lasting impression.

Age-Worthy Excellence:

While delightful now, our Verdelho will continue to evolve with bottle aging over the next three to five years, revealing new layers of depth and complexity.
