Although Jayne Beaumont sold Beaumont Family Wines to son Sebastian in 2015, she continues to live (and make wine) on the farm. “This is where I belong – in the Botriviera of the Overberg!”

“Three maybe four moments of madness (or momentary lapses of reason) have defined my life. Marrying Raoul…one of the best, buying a derelict farm in 1974, revitalizing the antique wine cellar in 1994 while making Pinotage, and starting a Pinot Noir project in 2008.”

“Raoul and I dreamt of a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyard on the hillside behind the farm … our pension…he would tend the vines and I would make the wine. Raoul sadly reneged on his side of the bargain when he passed away at the beginning of 2008, but I decided to make the wine anyway as a tribute to him, a singular man, and to keep my side of the deal.”

“To start with I sourced grapes from Bot River and Elgin and finally settled on a constant source from Anysbos Farm in the Bot River Valley in 2013. Grapes are picked from the same vineyard rows each year 2013-2019 … or for as long as Oom Bok (Johan Heyns) is willing to supply. Last year (my tenth Pinot anniversary) Sebastian planted a small Pinot and Chardonnay vineyard next to my house… I’ll be 102 by the time it’s ready!”

“As a fine artist with a far distant background in all the arts and sciences, wine has become the natural expression of both those disciplines with a large dose of creative angst thrown in. This then is the declaration of my love for wine and the making thereof.

"Life is uncertain…drink Pinot first!”
